This combat and traversal in a healthy mix and utilized properly - this is going to be lasting. While the gameplay mechanics also, slow and cumbersome ten years ago continue to be criticized even in the highest of praise. But even as we all get older, the cinematic and presentational things we loved in something like Red Dead Redemption can be antiquated by a sequel years later. I’m a player that likes my immersion and world building, probably more than most. I also think it needs to be stated - this game is getting disregarded, and I can’t wait in five years for the Dragon’s Dogma levels of realization and appreciation.įor all these attempts to decry it as the most bland and repetitive open world game, the irony is all of them, no matter how polished have a degree of repetition, open bland space and ill advised structure. You can main it in about 12 hours and are not forced into boring side missions to pad it. There is no filler in the main story (outside of 5 mins where you are forced to feed some sheep and another 10 where you are forced to go on a tour of the town or some nonsense). I found the game refreshing in how quick it gets you into the action. You can easily skip those parts with no issue.
And that was me going through every option too. This is true in some cases, and it is annoying, but in the 13 or so hours it took me to complete it, there were probably about 10 mins total where I was standing and talking to cuff. A big thing talked about in some reviews was how you cannot walk and talk at the same time.
It just seems journalists were finding ways to hate this. It takes a very shite AAA game to get under a 70 on metacritic.
There are problems with the game, but to see this with a 65 on metacritic is just crazy to me.
Mechanically, one of the best games I have played in a while.
